Today’s post includes rubrics and instructions on how to pray Matins on a 3^rd or 4^th class feast day. As you will see, there are no differences whatsoever in 3^rd and 4^th classes for Matins, rubrics-wise. If you were praying in a community with a 3^rd class, then one candle would be lit (out of three- three on each side of the tabernacle, just as we see at Holy Mass). 2^nd class: two candles lit. 1^st class: three candles. Again, if you are praying alone, apart from a community, then it is most likely you will have no candles lit, nor an altar in your home. Our Lord would probably be thrilled if you did… but again, candles are not required for recitation of the office individually.
