David, filmmaker and fervent Catholic podcaster, all the way from his home in Florence, recorded our conversation for his marvelous podcast The Way is Love (made into a mini-series since we covered several different topics) about Our Lady’s current book, available on Amazon, The Practice of the Presence of Mary: To Live and Die with Mary. When David and I were beginning the recording session, it was the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. I have this vintage French holy card gifted to me from a dear friend of mine over in Canada and it depicts Bernadette as shepherdess herding animals. During the recording I was living in a glorious town with my mom with a beach view during my “limbo” (many have seen the stunning photos) and right when the conversation was about to begin this giant trailer of goats, shepherd dogs and a sheepherder come down the hill and began building a fence for his herd. What are the odds that on Our Lady’s feast, Whose chosen visionary was a shepherdess, would come here? Have you ever seen goats next to an ocean in CALIFORNIA? I certainly have not. But it felt like a true blessing from none other than Our Lady of Lourdes; I like to think she was blessing the podcast…

As many of you already know I was formerly Sister Rosa Maria of the Sorrowful Heart, was Jade during the waiting period, and hoped to soon be Sister Jade Mary of the Sorrowful Heart. I told David that I am not “sister” yet as he very well knew, but he said something along the lines of “it is done”… Our Lord living outside of time “already sees you as Sister Jade, so I don’t believe I am called to refer to you as anything else.” My heart melted; I was recalling an instance in Carmel -which now almost seemed to have been a foreshadowment- of making a visit to the dentist and as I was filling out my paperwork, the question asked for my “name and preferred name”. For name I wrote: Jade Banks. For preferred name I wrote Sister Rosa Maria of the Sorrowful Heart… the dental assistant walks out and says: “Sister Jade?”
